Paste a list of codes and get up to 100 barcodes at once for products, inventory, asset tags or labels. Choose Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, UPC-A or ITF-14, then print the sheet or download each barcode as a PNG.
Barcodes are created in your browser; nothing is uploaded. Test-scan before printing labels. EAN and UPC numbers for retail must be registered with GS1.
Which barcode type to choose
| Type | Use it for | What it accepts |
|---|---|---|
| Code 128 | Inventory, shipping, asset tags | Letters, numbers and symbols |
| Code 39 | Older scanners, ID badges | Capital letters, numbers, a few symbols |
| EAN-13 | Retail products in India and most countries | 12 or 13 digits |
| UPC-A | Retail products in the USA and Canada | 11 or 12 digits |
| ITF-14 | Cartons and outer boxes | 13 or 14 digits |
If you’re not selling through shops, Code 128 is the safest choice: it handles any mix of letters and numbers. EAN and UPC numbers for products sold in stores must be registered with GS1.
Create barcodes in Excel
Install a free Code 39 barcode font, such as “Libre Barcode 39” from Google Fonts. Code 39 needs an asterisk at the start and end, so with the code in A2:
="*"&A2&"*"Format that column with the barcode font and the text turns into scannable barcodes. Join the asterisks with CONCAT or the & operator, as in combining text. For Code 128 or EAN-13, the generator above is easier, because those need a check character that’s tricky to calculate in Excel.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a code show as invalid?
Each barcode type accepts certain characters and lengths. EAN-13 needs 12 or 13 digits, for example. Switch to Code 128 for letters, dashes or other lengths.
Do I need to buy barcodes for my products?
For products sold in retail stores, yes: get EAN or UPC numbers from GS1 India. For your own inventory or labels, you can use any codes with Code 128.
How do I print them on label sheets?
Use Print all, then choose your printer’s scale and margins. For exact label layouts, download PNGs and place them with Word’s label mail merge.
