How to Connect Strava to Claude

Strava has an official connector for Claude. Once it’s linked, you can ask Claude about your runs, rides and training in plain English, and it answers from your real Strava data: pace, heart rate, distance, routes and gear.

Before you start

  • The connector is for Strava subscribers: the standard plan, the Strava + Runna bundle, Family and Student plans, and the discounted plans. A free trial works only after it turns into a paid plan.
  • Sign in to Claude at claude.ai or open the Claude desktop app.

Connect Strava in Claude

  1. Open the sidebar and go to Customize → Connectors.
  2. Click the + button, search for Strava and click Connect.
  3. A Strava window opens. Sign in if asked and click Authorize.
  4. Back in Claude, Strava now shows as connected. Start a new chat and ask a question about your training.

You can also see and manage the connection from Strava: on Strava.com, go to Settings → MCP; in the Strava app, go to You → Settings → AI Assistants.

Claude Code

If you use Claude Code in the terminal, add the connector with one command:

claude mcp add --transport http strava-mcp https://mcp.strava.com/mcp

Things to ask

Ask the way you’d ask a coach. Some prompts to try:

  • Summarise my running for the last 4 weeks: distance, number of runs and average pace.
  • Are my easy runs easy enough? Check my heart rate on runs slower than 6:30 per km.
  • Compare my 10K races this year. Did my pace improve?
  • I have a half marathon in 8 weeks. Based on my recent runs, what should my weekly distance look like?
  • How many kilometres are on my current shoes?
  • Make a table of my monthly distance for 2026 that I can paste into Excel.

That last one is handy: Claude gives you a clean table, and you can paste it into Excel to chart your training or track it against a goal.

What Claude can see

Your profile and heart rate zones, your list of activities, the detailed data for each one (pace, heart rate, power, GPS), performance details, clubs and gear. It only sees your own account.

Things to know

  • The connector is read-only. Claude can’t upload, edit or delete activities.
  • Claude’s numbers can differ a little from the Strava app (for example Performance Predictions), because it works the figures out its own way.
  • Strava limits how many requests can be made per minute and per day, so a very long analysis may need to be split up.
  • Your Strava history includes locations and health data. Review the permissions before you authorize.

Disconnect

  • In Claude: Customize → Connectors → Strava → Disconnect.
  • On Strava.com: Settings → My Apps → Revoke Access next to Claude.
  • In the Strava app: You → Settings → AI Assistants → Claude → Disconnect.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp remove strava-mcp
