CSV to Excel

Convert a CSV file to Excel, or an Excel sheet to CSV, in seconds. The separator is detected for you, and leading zeros in PIN codes, phone numbers and IDs are kept, which Excel often removes when you open a CSV directly.

Why not just open the CSV in Excel?

Excel tries to guess what each value is, and often guesses wrong:

  • Leading zeros disappear: PIN code 0682 becomes 682, and phone numbers lose their 0.
  • Long numbers break: 16-digit card or account numbers turn into 1.23E+15 and lose digits.
  • Semicolon files land in one column, depending on your regional settings.

This tool keeps values with leading zeros as text, converts normal numbers to real numbers, and handles comma, semicolon, tab and pipe separators.

Import a CSV properly in Excel

In Excel, use Data → From Text/CSV instead of double-clicking the file. It shows a preview, lets you choose the separator, and with Transform Data you can set a column to Text so leading zeros stay. See the Power Query Editor.

Saving Excel as CSV

The Excel to CSV option saves as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so Malayalam, Hindi and other non-English text, and the ₹ symbol, open correctly when you reopen the file in Excel.

Are my files safe?

Yes. Your files are opened and converted inside your own browser. They are never uploaded to this site or anywhere else, which matters for salary sheets, bank statements and customer data. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads, and the tool still works.

Frequently asked questions

What is a CSV file?

A plain text file where each line is a row and values are separated by commas or another character. Almost every system can export one.

Will my formulas be saved in the CSV?

No. CSV files only store values, and only one sheet.

Can I convert a TSV or text file?

Yes. Choose the Tab separator, or leave it on automatic.
