MAX Function

About

MAX function in Excel is used to find the ‘Largest Number or most recent Date’ from a set of values. MAX function ignores empty cells, the logical values and text values.

Purpose

Get the largest value in a set of values

Return value

Number equivalent to the Largest Number or recent Date

Syntax

=MAX(number1, [number2], ...)

Arguments

number1 – can be a direct value, cell reference or range reference.

number2 – [optional] can be a direct value, cell reference or range reference

Notes

The MAX function can handle up to 255 arguments.

The MAX function ignores empty cells.

The MAX function ignores TRUE and FALSE values, and numbers entered as text. To consider logical values, MAXA function should be used.
