SQRT function in Excel returns the square root of a positive number.

Purpose

Get the square root of a positive number.

Return value

A positive square root.

Syntax

=SQRT(number)

Arguments

number – The number for which you want the square root.

Notes

^ operator in Excel also can be used with the value ‘0.5’ to find the square root. For example the formula =4^0.5 will return the square root of 4.

SQRT function will return an error when a negative number is supplied into it.
